Descartes's Dualism. Dualism is a concept that was largely popularized by René Descartes. The concept asserts that the mind and body are two distinct entities in a human, but they work together intricately to ensure the optimal functioning of a human being (Lycan, 2003). Descartes/Cartesian dualism argues that there is a two-way interaction between mental and physical substances.
Descartes argued that the mind interacts with the body at the pineal gland.
